The most famous of the 3 pygmy seahorse species in Indonesia, this species lives exclusively on sea fans. They are truly microscopic and finding them requires a highly trained eye. Sometimes many pygmy seahorses will reside in the same sea fan. They match the color of the fan in which they live, which is usually red or pink. Occasionally this seahorse will reside in a yellow sea fan and take on a yellow color. The camouflage goes way beyond color though. These tiny seahorses have bumps or tubercules that perfectly match those that can be found on the sea fan. A true master of disguise!
