Dusk on Attu
As evening turns to night on Attu Island, the fog begins to settle in and smoke from a campfire, started by the only people on the entire island, rises in the distance. Attu Island, Western Aleutians, Alaska
Hiding in Plain Sight
Black Oystercatchers (Haematopus palliatus) build their nests on tiny islands that are barely above the high water line. The speckled eggs are brilliantly camouflaged with the beach rocks. The oystercatchers go through a great deal of effort to collect white shell fragments and neatly arrange them in a circle, defining the nest boundary. Glacier Bay, Alaska

Oceanfront Property
This single room cabin floating on a raft serves as home for a host of scientists conducting research in the West Arm of Glacier Bay. There are worse places to work. Glacier Bay, Alaska
Granite Pass in Orange and Gold
The setting sun splashes orange light on a nearly submerged land bridge between two islands. Granite Pass, Alaska
Tarr Inlet
In the far reaches of the West Arm, Tarr Inlet, with it's impressive tidewater glaciers, is the jewel of Glacier Bay. Bear, moose, and wolves roam the wild, untouched river delta in the foreground of this image. Glacier Bay, Alaska

Spotlight on the Coast
The Aleutian Islands are commonly shrouded in fog and low clouds. Here, the sun breaks through the thick cloud cover and casts ethereal light on the cliffs of Amchitka Island. Amchitka Island, Western Aleutians, Alaska

Notice to Mariners
A shipwreck lies scattered in pieces in the shallows along the south shore of Kiska Island, perhaps a casualty of World War II. Kiska was the site of many battles and was even held by Japan for a period of the war. Kiska Island, Western Aleutians, Alaska
